Health Trends for 2024

We as a society love a good trend. Whether it is cutting the waistband off our jeans circa Mariah Carey, trying a viral cacio e pepe recipe, or incorporating recent TikTok audios into our everyday vernacular, we are trendy. Just like there are trends for fashion, food, and slang, the same goes for health. But what men’s health trends for 2024? Popstar is back with the tips (and so much more than just the tip) on how to stay en vogue when it comes to your health!

*sung* O, O, O, Ozempic!

“So you think I’m skinny!?” We all remember the viral TikTok audio from 2021. While that sound may no longer be trending on your FYP, being skinny is certainly having a moment. There has been a resurgence in weight-loss-focused trends due to drugs like Ozempic being made mainstream. It seems like everywhere you turn, everyone is on the trend and miraculously shedding weight. Almost every Real Housewife is dropping dress sizes as quickly as they drop the latest gossip.

We often look to celebrities for the latest fad and promptly follow suit. With so much celebrity endorsement, weight-loss drugs like Ozempic have become wildly popular. The fad has spread like a Canadian forest fire! People looking to reap the benefits of weight drugs sans injections are turning to more “natural” alternatives like berberine, also known as “nature’s Ozempic.” Berberine is a chemical compound found in plants that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. While there isn’t much evidence that berberine is as effective as Ozempic, we expect that more over the counter products containing berberine will hit the shelves this year.

In the last few years, the days of diet culture were a thing of the past. New movements and mentalities of body positivity were, for lack of a better word, the trend. Surveys found that fitness is at the top of people’s resolution lists, replacing what was once mental health as a priority. While it is ok to follow trends and often fun, when it comes to fitness and diet, we need to prioritize our health over aesthetics. We also must remember that mental health is just as important as physical health. Even if you are up in the gym working on your fitness Fergalicious, make sure we don’t put our mental health on the back burner. Also, always consult a doctor before starting any weight loss regimens such as Ozempic or even over-the-counter products containing berberine. And always remember, skinny doesn’t always mean healthy.

Let’s Get Together!

Yeah, yeah, yeah! Sing it with us! The days of isolation and quarantine still haunt us like an embarrassing moment from 5th grade when you accidentally called your Spanish teacher mom. Although 2020 seems like a lifetime ago, we still feel the effect of the pandemic-induced isolation. In 2024, we will see a growth in group activities as people crave connection. Joining an intramural sports team or club to marry our resolutions for fitness and socialization. Believe it or not, popular activities like pickleball can remedy the lingering mental effects of quarantine. It can get your body moving while you make friends!

Go With Your Gut!

Who would’ve thought your stomach would be top of mind in 2024!? They say that our gut is our best asset when it comes to things like intuition. But what if we think about our gut in a more literal sense? There is a lot of evidence to show that everything related to your overall health starts in the gut. The gut not only breaks down food we eat and absorbs nutrients, but a healthy gut supports the immune and nervous system. A healthy gut also promotes great sleep, fighting cardiovascular disease, and combatting conditions like irritable bowel syndrome. There are numerous supplements that can support a healthy gut, but you can also give your gut a hand by eating more fruits and vegetables, as well as taking over-the-counter probiotics.

2024 and Tech

While people have been wearing smartwatches since the early aughts, they may be trendier than ever this year. Millions of Americans use their smartwatches to track exercise and sleep, among other health metrics, but the technology will go even deeper than ever before. Wrist deep, to be more specific. Wearable smart devices will soon be able to move past just monitoring our health but also warning us of health issues before they become more serious!  And expect to see a lot more tech in the bedroom as “sex tech” is a trend definitely on the rise. That’s right, wearable devices have become just another way to enhance the sexual experience and track your sexual prowess.

Trends, fashions, fads, crazes, whatever you partake in this year, always make sure health is at the top of your mind. Stay trendy for 2024 and continue to work on being the best version of yourself, because that is always en vogue!
